There is a new country star on the horizon, and it just might be you. But time is precious and if you think you have the latest and greatest sound in country music, then you have until Oct. 4 to sign up for a first in San Diego and its happening right here at Parkway Plaza on Oct. 11.

There is a new country star on the horizon, and it just might be you. But time is precious and if you think you have the latest and greatest sound in country music, then you have until Oct. 4 to sign up for a first in San Diego and its happening right here at Parkway Plaza on Oct. 11.

This is a “Nine to Five” event held by the newly formed San Diego Chapter of the West Coast Country Music Association and winners will gain a local claim to fame and the opportunity to compete nationally in Tennessee.

I have talked many times about the talent I see out in East County, and I can think of several bands, players and singer/songwriters that fall into this competition and hopefully some of them will come out and show East County just what I have been saying all along.

Contemporary country, traditional country, bluegrass and gospel music are the four categories in the West Coast Country Music Challenge and it is open to people of all ages. And the WCCMA has the stage set and ready for any budding or veteran musician to show their stuff.

James Cramer, lead singer for Barbwire, is the San Diego Chapter president and knows firsthand what the WCCMA means being the North American Country Music Association International’s Vocalist of the year in 2014 and WCCMA’s Vocalist and Entertainer of the year in 2013. His vision in bringing the WCCMA to San Diego is as strong as his dedication to promoting music.

Parkway Plaza is onboard for the day of talent and pleased to host this event and Cramer is excited about bringing the WCCMA to East County. Last time we spoke, he was about half way there with people that are ready to take the challenge, but is hoping for a full house for the judges to choose from and already believes it will be a tough competition.

This event is open to single artists, vocal groups and bands. And with four wide-ranging categories it is a chance that does not come by often, but with the help of some East County musicians it might become a mainstay for discovering the next great of country artists.

I will be there all day, and would not miss this opportunity to see so much talent in one place. Hope you feel the same way, especially if you have the talent that fits the bill.
