Music on Main returns for the summer

Downtown El Cajon is preparing for the return of its summer concert tradition with a refreshed identity, a renewed focus, and a Friday night schedule designed to kick off the weekend.

Formerly known as the Dinner & A Concert Series, the program has been rebranded as Music on Main, a free weekly concert series held at Prescott Promenade from June through August, running Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m.

According to Gabby Manocchio, assistant district manager of the Downtown El Cajon Association, the rebrand reflects a sharper focus on the event’s purpose.

“The rebrand was intended to reinforce the brand to Downtown El Cajon and reflect what the event truly is focused on—music,” Manocchio said. “The spirit of this event and all events are really to draw attention to Downtown El Cajon, but also drive additional foot traffic into the district and businesses.”

The series briefly moved to Thursday nights to align with the Cajon Cruise and other activities, but organizers ultimately returned to Fridays.

“After seeing no major changes to the traffic flow, the Association moved the event back to Fridays,” she said.

Prescott Promenade remains the central venue for the series.

“Prescott Promenade is an ideal venue because of its central location and built-in stage,” Manocchio said. “The space is designed to accommodate community gatherings and live performances.”

Each season features a wide range of genres, including classic rock, country, Latin, Motown, and tribute acts, to appeal to a broad audience.

“We aim to curate a diverse mix of genres to appeal to a wide audience and reflect the variety within the local and regional music scene,” she said. “The goal is to create an inclusive lineup that brings the community together.”

Featured performers this season include Heart of Rock and Roll, Ronstadt Revival, Journeymen, Whitney Shay, and Amor Prohibido.

Beyond entertainment, the series provides an economic boost for downtown businesses, particularly restaurants and cafés that see increased traffic during concert nights.

“It creates a strong economic boost for local businesses on event nights,” Manocchio said.

Organizers also hope to broaden the audience beyond its traditional base.

“We’re intentionally working to expand the draw and audience,” she said. “With a more diverse lineup this year, we’re aiming to attract younger attendees and a broader cross-section of the community.”

Looking ahead, the goal is continued growth and long-term identity.

“Our goal is to reinforce Music on Main as a signature event of Downtown El Cajon,” Manocchio said. “We’re focused on continuing to grow and evolve the series in the coming years.”
