As a native San Diegan, York has been involved in covering pertinent community news, as well as arts and athletics in print, online and multi-media platforms.

For the last decade, York has been involved in volunteer work from coaching high school forensics to serving in international refugee centers. She has written for newspapers in San Diego since college, holding editor positions at The Southwestern College Sun and The Daily Aztec.

York will assume the position of the editor of The East County Californian on Feb. 22. Her knowledge of East County is extensive, having worked with this community since 2015. With her prolific love of sports, she was the only desired candidate when the position for a sports writer opened three years ago to cover East County high schools and colleges Fortunately for East County, she accepted.

“It has been a wonderful experience getting to know East County through the eyes of its high school athletes and coaches,” said York. “I look forward to broadening my knowledge of this community in the coming years.”
