Lakeside has many things to celebrate this month

Having lived in Eucalyptus Hills, my children going through school there and now another generation doing the same, Lakeside holds a special place in my heart. I still get a feeling of coming home heading down Highway 67 and seeing El Cap in the distance.

April is a special month for this special community and personally, I am excited for the upcoming Western Days and rodeo. These events are a long-standing tradition of this community.

April is a special month for this special community and personally, I am excited for the upcoming Western Days and rodeo. These events are a long-standing tradition of this community.

The parade reminds me so much of the small town parades I attended as a youngster in the South as it is truly a community parade, filled with people we all know and an event that brings out the charm of this small community that rests on the edge of the back country in East County. And the rodeo is always an anticipated, exciting event for me. It is a signature event that many look forward to each year.

This year is special in my book because Lakeside has much to celebrate this year. On April 25, the soft grand opening of the new Skate Park at Lindo Lake County Park is going to be a great asset to the youth of the community. Each week, I drive by there to see the progress and it is coming together wonderfully and is going to rival any skate park in Southern California. The planning behind this was far reaching and the fact that it was the community that brought this together makes it even better still.

The restoration of the old Lakeside Theater is another promising and welcomed project in the works. In hearing about its plans, it pleases me so much that the plans include restoring the theatre and keeping its original design and flavor on the outside. It will be a wonderful feeling to see this icon up and part of the community again.

It will not be long now before Pinnacle Peak opens its doors on Main Street. This restaurant has a strong East County tie (no pun intended) and I believe that Lakeside will embrace it and it will remain a viable part of our community. With its newer ownership, revamped menu and the desire to succeed, it is good to see that it found a new home that will still serve the people in our region.

Cafe 67 is a successful business, has established a great clientele, and is always packed when I drive by. Its hometown flavor and delicious food is a match made in heaven for Lakeside.

Another project that is well on its way is the new equestrian center. With the help of the County of San Diego, this attraction will bring the ability to expand the western horsemanship that Lakeside is well known for, while bringing the element of English riding that so many equestrian lovers can utilize and enjoy.

Along with several other projects, Lakeside has plenty of reasons to show its pride in its community this year and there is no better place and time than the upcoming Western Days events. In this case especially, with all the new additions and changes, the best thing to celebrate is that all of these projects do not change the back country charm of Lakeside. They enhance it and I have full faith that Lakeside will open its arms and make these things a part of the community that will serve its residents and bring more people in the county out to this wonderful community that many call home.
