Lakeside Chamber welcomes Crunch Fitness to the neighborhood

“This is not just a job for me. It feels like family in here. We offer loyalty, commitment, respect and love to our members and we make them feel very welcomed,” said Marcie Banegas the member services representative for Crunch Fitness, the first gym to ever open in Lakeside. Although Crunch has been functioning for few months already, they held its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 27, with fun stuff to do for all ages: food, cool vendors, raffle prizes and membership deals for grown-ups and bouncy house, face painting and games for the little ones.

Although Crunch has been functioning for few months already, they held its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 27, with fun stuff to do for all ages: food, cool vendors, raffle prizes and membership deals for grown-ups and bouncy house, face painting and games for the little ones.

Lakeside Chamber of Commerce, the local fire department and the Miss Lakeside ambassadors were part of the group with the scissors ready to cut the red ribbon. A large crowd filled the space sampling the donuts, while others were crushing it at the weight lifting stations or on the “power workout” machines. Josey Oliver, who is directing the Marketing and Sales Department, is expecting to count almost 4,000 members after the ribbon cutting party, with 60-80 members signing up every day, a very impressive jump from the 3,000 last month. “We are planning to add more classes during the afternoon, based on membership growth and students’ demand,” said Oliver, mentioning Zumba classes as the most popular right now.

Crunch offers part time childcare services from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday and 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The childcare staff, Lourdes Ramirez said, “The kids encourage the parents to come here because they already made friends here and love to play in our facility. Kids get motivated and then motivate their own parents, so it’s a win-win.”

The childcare is for kids ages six months to 12 years old and available two hours maximum per child. Ramirez says mornings are the busiest times.

Kevin Moore, general manager at Crunch said he’s been working in the health industry for more than 20 years. Moore believes Lakeside needed a public gym “to support the people of this great community become active by offering them professional help to achieve their fitness goal, to de-stress, to feel great by coming here and getting a great value for their membership.“ Born and raised in Lakeside, Fitness Manager Ron Martell seconds that goal, adding that 24 years of experience in the fitness field gave him what it takes to help others not only achieve their dreams, but exceed their expectations. Martell also talked about the bumpy start for Crunch, with a delayed opening due to the slow process of obtaining the necessary permits. Unfortunately, that reflected for a while in the public reviews on social media from people who were eager to have the place open faster. This year chairman of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce Mike Anderson hopes that the locals will start appreciating how involved Crunch is in the Lakeside community, participating in many charity events and mixers, donating time and money to the community. “We welcome Crunch in Lakeside, we need more businesses like this one to come here and make our town a better place to live.”

The place is on the smaller size, but a cozy state of the art gym facility with the latest workout machines, a spacious room for fitness classes, hydro massage and tanning, showers, lockers, changing rooms and now open 24 hours.
