“Still life # one” as a painting’s title or how about a witty “Son, we need to talk” title by artist Gloria Chadwick that pictured two bovines? The birds and bees talk?  More titles, and paintings, were on exhibit at La Mesa’s Nainsook Framing + Art’s Artist Reception “Renewal” Wine + Cheese Artist Reception held on Jan. 6 that had an estimated 60 guests. The show included plein air, abstract, pottery, oil, watercolor and mixed media and is open for viewing until the end of February.

Chadwick, who many might recognize as a re-elected 2018 Grossmont Hospital Board member, and other community projects, was one of 12 artists whose artwork was on exhibit.

Roz Oserin, who co-owns Nainsook with her husband Dan, took over the business from the previous owner in November 2016. “The timing for downtown La Mesa was right.  We wanted to bring art into La Mesa,” she said.

The Oserins did just that by showcasing, not only Roz Oserin’s paintings, but other artist’s work as well such as the work of Grace Schlesier, Gloria Chadwick, Midge Hyde and more at the reception.  Just one event of many that celebrates and displays art and artists by Nainsook.

Schlesier’s “Lily Pond-plein air oil” was one of five of her works on display.  Schlesier, a native New Yorker said, “I’ve done calendars, book covers, note cards and it goes on and on.  I’ve been in four-five major shows.” Schlesier, and other accomplished artists such as Erik Mario Austin, Paul White, Richard Shaw, Carolyn Kenny, Sharon Meng, Connie Grace, Lynn Stone, and Michele Bunch Palmer were in the show curated by Roz Oserin.

“Everything has to have fun in it” said Chadwick.  Chadwick’s motto “Fine art; fun art” is evident in person and in her art. She owns Horsefly Studio. Chadwick, and other artists in attendance are active in local artist related associations. Roz Oserin is a member of the Foothills Art Association to cite one.

“This is the first time I am here,” said artist Midge Hyde. “I’ve had three pieces framed here.” Of note because Nainsook not only showcases artists’ work but also an expert framing shop for art and photos. Nainsook Framing & Art has a variety of instructional art classes, shows and events.
