La Mesa’s oldest park, Collier Park, was established in 1915, nearly 108 years ago. La Mesa City Manager Greg Humora said that much progress has been made in the park’s renovation with a newly constructed picnic shade structure, a multi-use tennis/pickleball courts surfaced and striped, the repaving Pasadena Avenue, the installation of a nature-themed playground underway using salvaged timbers from trees previously removed on site, tree and shrub planting in progress, the overflow parking area at 4th Street and Pasadena Avenue is being compacted with decomposed granite, and the creation of the Collier Park monument sign.
“Though the park looks ready for play, there are still a number of tasks to complete including installation of site furnishings and interpretive signs, grading of the east slope (History Hill) trail, and tree trimming. In January 2024, we plan on hosting a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration, with a soft opening anticipated by the end of 2023,” stated Humora.
