Candidate Santee School District
Why are you running for school board?
To continue to provide a safe environment and the best education for all of our students.
With studies showing students are behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic, what would you do on the policy level in ensuring students behind are able to catch up?
Smaller class sizes and additional support for our teachers.
Are you a proponent of armed teachers in classrooms as a way of addressing school safety?
I am not.
How would you address school safety so parents and volunteers could access campus while unwanted individuals are kept away?
School safety is always a high priority in our District. Our Board policies demonstrate this commitment. Each school has a comprehensive safety plan.
How can the district support homeless students?
This year the district hired a full-time counselor to work with homeless students and their families to provide services needed.
Under what circumstances is it appropriate to ban books from school classrooms and libraries?
Books that are challenged to be inappropriate will be reviewed to determine if they should be removed from our library.
What are your top three goals, if elected?
Safe environment for students and staff, higher test scores and to work on students’ social and emotional well-being.
What curriculum or activities would you advocate for to better challenge advanced students?
The district has adopted complex math and science curriculums as well as an assessment tool to determine middle school students’ strengths and passions.
How would you connect with the neighboring community?
I do a lot of volunteer work in the community and am always glad to answer inquiries about our district.
Which past efforts from your board would you choose to amplify or grow, and which would you choose to end or phase out?
I would not phase out anything the Board has done. I would continue to support all efforts to achieve higher test scores.
