One of the most enriching voices in the R&B scene since the early 70s, Jeffrey Osborne captivated the Top Ten Billboard Hot Soul Singers becoming the lead vocalist for L.T.D., including three No. 1 songs for the band’s three gold and platinum albums before going solo in 1982.
His solo career brought him four Grammy nominations, five gold and platinum albums, hitting the international charts with “On the Wings of Love” in 1982. His latest project, “Worth It All” in 2018 on Artistry Music, written and produced by Osborne, with the exception of one song “Work It,” which was co-written with his son Jeffrey Osborne Jr. who performed the track with his father. This project was inspired by the great George Duke and takes Osborne back to his deep R&B roots.
On Dec. 11, Osborne is bringing his soulful voice to the The Magnolia in El Cajon for a one night stop with his well-known singles “I Really Don’t Need No Light,” “On the Wings of Love,” “Stay with Me Tonight,” “You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song),” and “She’s on the Left.”
With the release of his new album right before COVID, Osborne said it shut musicians and performers everywhere. Concerts were gone and it was hard on himself and the industry, but he is happy that things are coming back, he’s entertaining, despite the COVID protocols that need to be made to perform.
“It’s been a hard time for all of us trying to get back into the swing of things,” he said. “We are grateful to be back, but we have to be very, very cautious.”
Osborne said that he’s feeling well, having fun, and looking forward to coming to El Cajon and the San Diego region.
Osborne said it ended up that the record company only released one single on his new album, “Worth It All,” so the album did not get the attention that he was expecting from it, but he is still happy to sing songs from his 50 year career, his new songs, and some of the fans’ favorites.
“We try to entertain people,” he said. “I’ll be singing some L.T.D. songs, my singles, and probably a couple of cover songs to mix things up.”
Osborne said that he’s looking forward to his concert and is thankful for the fans that make it to the show and those that listen to his music.
“They have been supportive of me for so many years,” he said. “I look forward to seeing them there in El Cajon and come on out and have a good time. It will be a lot of fun.”
