Santee is planning to open a new fire station later this month.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for an interim Fire Station is scheduled for Oct. 24 beginning at 10 a.m.
According to city officials, interim Fire Station 20 was established to support growing service needs while the City begins the process of building a permanent station at the same location.
The facility is staffed by professional firefighter/paramedics and equipped with a Type 1 fire engine. The City will also relocate an existing paramedic ambulance to Interim Station 20 at a later date.
“We are very excited to open Santee’s third fire station in the southwestern area of our City,” said Harley Wallace, the Fire Chief of the Santee Fire Department. “This facility will improve emergency response times and the service that we provide our citizens.”
The interim fire station is the first additional fire station opened since 1964.
Officials said the station “will boost response times in the southwest area of the city, with plans for the construction of a permanent fire station in the same location in the future.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at the City of Santee Operations Yard at 9534 Via Zapador Way.
