Helix Charter High School hosted a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the opening of the school’ s newest facilities, including an expansive new Academic Support and Extended Learning facility, and a modern Highlander Kitchen.
The new buildings include a spacious new facility for academic support and extended learning activities, with several small rooms for study or private counseling and a large collaborative space furnished with tables and chairs where students can work together on projects or receive group support services. The space also functions as a professional development or teacher training facility, complete with large whiteboards and state-of-the-art technology and multimedia. The building can also be utilized as an event and conference center, providing a venue for workshops, lectures, and seminars promoting community engagement.
The project provides a new space for Helix’s food services function, with a modern kitchen and food preparation area, a walk-in freezer and refrigerator, and thoughtfully laid-out serving stations. The facility provides six speed-service lines that can efficiently serve 1,000-plus students within an 11-minute timeframe.
Funded by Measure BB and Proposition U, these are the latest projects for Grossmont Union High School District’s comprehensive master plan.
