Helen was born May 3 1915 in Elk River, Minnesota. She grew up in Spencer, Iowa, near Lake Okoboji. She loved to roller skate and won some prizes for her abilities. She came to San Diego during World War II and met her brother’s friend a fellow Marine, Paul McAllaster “Mac”. They were married February 12, 1945. They were married for 49 years.

She helped her husband build his accounting practice, typing tax returns often with a toddler pulling at her skirt. She raised four children, 3 boys and a girl. She enjoyed cooking and shopping. Mac used to say her office was Fashion Valley! She has 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and they all adore her.

Her husband passed away in 1994 and she continued to live alone until last year, when she moved to Lantern Crest. She really enjoys the balloon exercises and often takes the bus to services at Sonrise Church.
