Head start on Home Start supply drive

Home Start, a nonprofit organization dedicated to child abuse prevention and providing evidence-based family strengthening services, is holding its annual Backpack and Supply Drive from now through July 31 to benefit local families in need. The organization is collecting various supplies, including sturdy backpacks, pens, pencils, folders, binders, glue sticks, reusable water bottles, and more.

All donations will be stuffed into backpacks that contain all the “must-haves” for underserved students, which helps reduce the financial impact that school supply shopping can have on struggling families. The donations will benefit children from kindergarten through 12th grade to better prepare them for the school year.

Each year, Home Start’s Backpack and School Supply Drive helps hundreds of children in need of school supplies. The donations directly benefit children served by Home Start’s life-changing programs that strengthen families and assure the safety and resilience of children.

Additionally, Home Start is also asking for volunteers to help pack the backpacks with the donated supplies before they are distributed. From July 29 through Aug. 3, participants can help create the perfect back-to-school gift for a student. Backpacks will then be distributed to Home Start families throughout the first week of August.

The community is invited to drop off donations of supplies or filled backpacks ready to distribute at Home Start’s main office (5005 Texas Street, Suite 203, San Diego, from Monday through Friday between 9-5 p.m. Participants can also choose to donate by shopping through Home Start’s Amazon Wishlist (https://bit.ly/3zsc5IO), which allows the school supplies to be shipped directly to Home Start.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Kylene George at KGeorge@home-start.org.
