EL CAJON — Well, the mayor liked the cusine, so dive on in.
Of course, that’s what many East County residents have already done ever since Nick Ouro, 32, opened the first Happy’s Pizza franchise in California — right on the corner of Main and Avocado a month ago.
The venue used to house an Arby’s and then a Chinese food and donut shop, but now it hosts some of the best food in this area.
American classic dining at its best. The crowds at the eatery testify to this.

And while pizza is certainly prominent in the name, there is so much more to Happy’s — ribs, chicken, burgers, wings, shrimp, fish, sub sandwiches, hot dogs, Italian sausage, Philly cheesesteaks, etc., etc., etc.
It’s a menu as big as the appetie of say, someone like me — or Mayor Mark Lewis of El Cajon. Plus, every dish is mouthwateringly delicious, especially the rib tips and dozens of pizza varieties.
“I’m a big food fan,” said Ouro, a native of Detroit. “Happy’s Pizza offered me the chance to come to California and I jumped at it.
“I took a look at this location and saw the great Chaldean community and the diversity here and I could not wait to open.”
Although this is Ouro’s first ivolvement with a restaurant, he is no stranger to hard work, and work is what it takes to punch out Happy’s extensive menu.
“We want to give customors the best food, so we work very hard on these dishes.”
The effort pays off in many, ways. Try it and see for yourself.
