Grossmont quarterback sails into SDCIF record book…again

Grossmont Quarterback Anthony Lawrence needed only 48 yards to break one more SDCIF record on Friday night. With 20-25 completions and 280 yards his last high school league game went down in the record books. The 48-6 win was icing on the cake.

Grossmont Quarterback Anthony Lawrence needed only 48 yards to break one more SDCIF record on Friday night. With 20-25 completions and 280 yards his last high school league game went down in the record books. The 48-6 win was icing on the cake.

The records Lawrence swept on Friday are: SDCIF Career Passing Yards 8502 previous record was 8269 and SDCIF Career Touchdown Passes for 11 Man Football 90 previous was 82 (8 man is 92). Lawrence is expected to reach the surpass the 8 man record during CIF post season play which begins this Friday. 

Lawrence previously set the record for most SDCIF Career Completions he currently has 651 the previous was 612. He is currently ranked #2 with the second highest pass completions percentage. He is also ranked in the top 5 for pass yards per game with his game vs Valhalla with 509 yards in one game. 

Teammates said all these titles have not gone to Lawrence’s head, called him “a super hard worker” and said he deserves them.

“What I am proudest of – the way he treats people. He befriends a special ed kid who feels comfortable coming up and joking with Anthony or joining him for lunch. His work ethic is insane,” said Tony “Papa” Lawrence.

West hills received the opening kick and after losing yardage they were forced to kick the ball on fourth down. Linebacker Anthony Alton blocked the kick giving the hillers the ball on the 30-yard line and putting them in perfect scoring position. 

This was the way of the game, the Hillers shut down West Hills Cougars the entire first half, going into half time at 21-0. Grossmont received the ball after the half, this time it was running back Alijah Avant who caught a touchdown pass from Lawrence making the score 28-0

Lawrence utilized many of his favorites in the game; he found Josh Anderson who has returned

West Hills quarterback Kian Ahmadian scored the only touchdown with a keeper late in the game making the score 48-6.
