You are sitting in Starbucks at 10 p.m. trying to finish up the very last bit of the assignment due by 11:59 p.m. You begin to think you are going to make your deadline, when the barista comes over and tells you that the lobby is closing for the evening.

64 percent of all Americans drink at least one cup of coffee a day.

64 percent of all Americans drink at least one cup of coffee a day.

Every cup of coffee contains 95 milligrams of caffeine. According to the dictionary, caffeine is a compound that stimulates the central nervous system. Many college students survive long days of work, classes and studying by continually stimulating their nervous system with this near-magical drug.

According to a report by Money Matters the average American spends $1,100 on coffee a year.

I try to control how much I spend on coffee. On a normal week I can wake up go to work, school, etc. and do alright without a cup of coffee, but the crazy kicks in when I get out of class or off of work late at night and still have to drive home 45 minutes, and then have to study before class the next day. This is when I can no longer deny myself 95 milligrams of caffeine. Coffee is a calculated life expense.

The trick comes in, when trying to find an open coffee house in the middle of the night, and the one or two Starbucks that are open are usually are drive thru only. When I have studying to do, the moment I go home and see my big comfy bed, the need to study becomes debatable, and drive thru coffee just will not cut it.

On the other hand, sometimes late at night is the only social time my friends and I can match up schedules, because responsibilities take up the entire day, and nothing but clubs are open. And who wants to have a conversation in a club?

What is the solution? Well, a night coffee shop – a place where people who need a place to study late at night, grab a midnight cup of joe or get together with their friends for a late-night coffee talk can sit and enjoy themselves.

According to E-Imports, Espresso Business Solutions it has been found that male genders feel that coffee is a great way to help get a job done, where female genders have reported that coffee is a great way to relax.

These things are not just daytime activities, there is both a nightlife social scene as well as a need for a relaxing environment, so students can study in the middle of the night.

People can talk about how college students need to manage their time, make sure to sleep and not depend on coffee to keep them awake and alert all day long. But, in the end there are not enough hours in the day to do everything.

There is not an escape from the need for coffee and all-nighters. Until a solution is created to somehow perfectly balance all the demands of work, school and life while not losing any sleep, people need coffee at night.

Coffee is more than a morning pick me up, and there should be night coffee shops available for those who need and prefer it.
