Fundraiser to benefit East County Transitional Living Center

Hunger for Hope, a student-led fundraiser aimed at raising awareness about food insecurity and homelessness, will take place Aug. 8 at North Park Apostolic Church, 2515 Lemon Grove Ave., in Lemon Grove.

The event is organized by Isabel Hayden, a high school student in El Cajon. The fundraiser will feature a 36-hour fast beginning at 8 p.m. Aug. 7 and is designed to give high school students the opportunity to support individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

“Hunger for Hope is an opportunity for high schoolers and church youth groups to do service in the community while fasting for 36 hours. It gives these teens the chance to put themselves in the shoes of so many. Showing them that they can give hope, and support those in their community,” Hayden said.

The Aug. 8 event will begin at 9 a.m. and include community service projects and activities. Students will be separated by gender and stay overnight at the church under adult supervision.

The goal is to raise $10,000 to benefit East County Transitional Living Center, a nonprofit that provides emergency housing and job training for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Team Kia Mazda of El Cajon is a Silver Sponsor. Corporate sponsorships begin at $1,000, and teen sponsorships are available starting at $50.

“We invite teens to reach out to their family, friends, church community, neighbors, and local supporters to gather sponsorships. This is a great opportunity for youth to take ownership of their impact, and every dollar raised truly makes a difference,” Hayden said.

The fast will conclude with an 8 a.m. breakfast on Aug. 9. Representatives from the center will speak, and participants will receive awards.
