Richard “Dick” Canfield, a 100-year-old member of the Lakeside Historical Society and father to Diane Angus, was part of the recent Old Glory Honor Flight to France in observance of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Canfield is the oldest member of the Lakeside Historical Society, and his great-granddaughter is the youngest member. Canfield was accompanied by his son Richard, attending the memorials on their visit. Canfield enlisted in the US Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor and eventually was stationed in the Philippines before returning to San Diego after the war.
