This year, Friends of East County Arts (FECA) is hosting another fundraiser, “Friends Fashion Fling.” The event will be held at 2 p.m. on June 2 located at the Ronald Reagan Center to showcase upcoming summer fashion while being entertained by The International Academy of Jazz and enjoying food from Cupid’s catering.

Publicity Chairperson for FECA Liz Taylor said the event is an important one for the community.

“This is one of three fundraisers we do every year,” she said. “Last year we were able to grant over $31,000 to East County schools and organizations.”

Schools and organizations such as Lemon Avenue Elementary School, Grossmont College, Peter Pan Jr. Theatre, and East County Youth Symphony have been recipients of the money raised by the FECA fundraisers.

For the past two years, the organization has worked with the Grossmont Macys located in La Mesa, who are providing the clothes for the fashion show. The nine models that were recommended and selected by FECA members went to the Macys store and selected the three outfits they each would be modeling during the fundraiser.

Locals such as Margoree Howard-Hartman, who is in charge of the models for the event, are the people of the community that volunteer to make these fundraisers possible.

“I like to help give to my community and do whatever I can with the certain skills that I might have to raise the money because it goes for such a good cause,” Howard-Hartman said. “The schools and the organizations really need help. Schools don’t get much help anymore with the music and arts programs, it has been taken out of a lot of the schools.”

Tickets are $70 per person and can be purchased by reservations only.

Reservations can be made by contacting Judy Moore, the Reservations Chairman, at (619) 442-2778. Money is also raised at the event through drawings and a silent auction.

FECA is a tax exempt non-profit organization under 501(c)(3) and is dedicated to the purpose to, “provide funds for the growth and development of audiences for the live performing arts.”
