Throughout California and Hawaii, more than $4 million was contributed this year for treating children with disabilities. El Cajon Lodge No. 1812 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Exalted Ruler Mac McClelland contributed $50,000 raised by members of the El Cajon Lodge, contributing one-third of the $153,000 raised by the 10 lodges in the regional South Coast District.

“We are pleased and proud that members of our local Elks Lodge were so generous with their dollars and time during this important undertaking,” McClellan said in a press statement.

All funds are devoted solely to provide vision screening and therapy treatments to children with a broad range of disabilities. Without Elks-supported donations, many of these children would not receive these treatments.

Since 1950, 54,155 members from throughout California and Hawaii have contributed more than $140 million to the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc., which administers the nonprofit corporation. The raising of funds to aid children with disabilities is just one of the many philanthropic and patriotic projects which mark the Elks’ contributions to our community.
