It really was a “Night to Shine” at the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce’s East County Honors Annual Awards Gala. An evening of fun, laughter and networking, the event celebrated the thriving East County individuals for public service and businesses for contributions to the region.

Held at the Barona Resort and Casino on Feb. 11, the evening included silent and live auctions conducted by the Chamber’s Past Chair Steve Hamman, exquisite dining, music and an excellent chance for the people of East County to network. Hamman received a proclamation from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, given by Supervisor Dianne Jacob, proclaiming February 11, Steve Hamman Day throughout the county. Jacob also proceeded over the installation of the Chamber’s 2016 Board of Directors with a witty and whimsical oath, still keeping the charge of oath with earnest.

Incoming Chair Leah McIvor received a $5,500 check from Chair of the Chamber’s Foundation Pat Howard, which included $2,500 for SDG&E and $1,000 from Run East County to support the Chamber’s Ethics in Business programs. McIvor said the Chamber is heading into 2016 with a balanced budget, a sustainable reserve, and expanding membership of more than 600 members.

“We are investing in our area’s greatest resource—our people,” said McIvor. “We can be proud of established programs such as Leadership and new ones such as the Workforce Development Program.” A new partnership between the Grossmont Cuyamaca Community College District, Grossmont Union High School District, East County Economic Development Council and the East County Career Center.
