Eagles looking to soar at Division II boys CIF wrestling tournament

The latest San Diego Section wrestling rankings favor Poway as the county’s top boys team and the Granite Hills Eagles as the No. 2 team.

Poway will compete in this Saturday’s Division I champion tournament at Rancho Bernardo High School while Granite Hills will compete in the Division II tournament at San Pasqual High School.

Granite Hills will be looking to flex its collective muscle after going undefeated in Grossmont Hills League dual meets.

The Eagles tuned up for this weekend’s CIF meet by winning the recent Holtville Invitational team championship.

“We had a total of three champions, nine in the finals and 14 placers,” GHHS head coach Jesse Sheard said. “We are looking forward to CIF this weekend as we start our post season journey. Our athletes have put in a lot of hard work this year as we pursue our first ever team CIF title.”

Two Eagles are ranked first in the county: Abram Cline (106) and Collin Guffey (152). Granite’s Carlo Arreola (113), Jayson Suetos (126) and Devon Wells (138), and West Hills’ Ryder Dearborn (182), are all ranked second in the county.
