The El Cajon Fire Station is going to the dogs.

The city of El Cajon and Heartland Fire & Rescue are working together to host the Dog Days of Summer on July 1.

“We are thrilled to host the Dog Days of Summer event at the El Cajon Fire Station,” said Fire Chief Bent Koch. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, learn about fire safety, meet Yara, and enjoy a morning of fun activities with their dogs. We look forward to welcoming families and their furry friends for an unforgettable morning.”

Yara is the state’s first fulltime fire station wellness dog.

Participants will have an opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the station and learn about fire station and fire prevention.

Dogs are welcome and Camp Run-A-Mutt will provide free dog washes.

The event is from 9 a.m. to noon July 1, free and open to the public. The fire station is at 100 Lexington Ave in El Cajon.
