Day of pampering unsheltered returns

Reflections Salon & Day Spa will host its 8th annual “Haircut for the Homeless” event on Sunday, April 27, offering free hair wash, haircuts, hot meals, clothing, hygiene products and other resources for individuals in need.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9909 Maine Ave. Services will be provided by volunteers, and no registration is required for those seeking assistance. Step by Step Serenity’s Shop will distribute hygiene kits, while Heart Art will offer art therapy to promote emotional healing.

Organizers are currently collecting donations of blankets, sleeping bags, tents, backpacks, clothing, socks, beanies, gloves, jackets, baby wipes, toiletries and snacks. Donations can be dropped off at the salon during business hours leading up to the event.

According to a statement on the salon’s website, owner Ginger Rich, who experienced homelessness in her youth, founded the program in 2016 as a way for her to give back. After attending beauty school and becoming a hairstylist, Rich opened her own salon and launched the annual event to provide care, hope and support to the local community.

The event aims to be a safe place where real conversations and transformations can begin. As well as encourage community involvement by connecting volunteers with individuals experiencing homelessness.
