A state senator this weekend is helping students and their families get ready for the upcoming school year.
State senator Akilah Weber is hosting the annual Backpack Giveaway & Family Resource Fair from 8 – 10 .p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, in the lower lot at O’Farrell Charter School.
In addition to receiving free backpacks filled with school supplies, families will also be able to connect with community organizations offering valuable programs and services.
Children must be on site to receive the backpack and school supplies.
Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis. O’Farrell Charter School is at 6130 Skyline Drive in San Diego.
Weber represents State Senate district 39 which includes the cities of El Cajon, Lemon Grove and La Mesa.

A separate backpack and school supplies giveaway is being hosted by the County of San Diego, also on Aug., 8, at the county’s Child Support Services Central Office from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The office is at 3666 Kearny Villa Road in San Diego.
The county will also provide access to resources and aid for families during the giveaway.
