The 2025 high school football season just got more interesting for the El Cajon Valley Braves after the Braves pushed through to claim their first win of the season, 23-8, in non-league play at Orange Glen High School in Escondido last Friday.
“Being able to establish the run and being a physical downhill team on offense and maintaining discipline to our assignments on defense,” enumerated head coach James Simon in recounting his first win with the team as head coach.
The Braves scored three touchdowns in the game, including two rushing scores by junior Janvier Kashindi (20 carries, 154 yards) and one receiving touchdown by senior Vave Mossman (nine catches, 95 yards).
Senior quarterback Jaquari Wash completed six of 12 passing attempts for 99 yards with the one touchdown.
As a team, El Cajon Valley rushed for 266 yards while holding the host Patriots to just 34 yards on the ground.
Junior Gavino Kendall-Pinal had nine carries for 59 yards while senior Alex Molina had three carries for 24 yards. Senior Leo Jones had four carries for 18 yards while Wash had three carries for 11 yards.
Jones keyed the ECV defense with eight tackles while Mossman and Kashindi each had six tackles. Mossman, Kashindi and Wash each recorded sacks. Kashindi also had one interception.
The Braves hope to continue their winning ways with a non-league encounter Friday against the visiting Castle Park Trojans (1-3).
ECV kicks off Grossmont Valley League play Oct. 3 by hosting Santana, followed by games at Monte Vista (Oct. 10) and Valhalla (Oct. 17).
