University Women planning winter benefit

Cantate Women’s Ensemble is scheduled to perform at the winter celebration.

The La Mesa-El Cajon Branch of the American Association of University Women is holding its winter celebration on Dec. 9, collecting donations of baby and adult diapers, pasta, canned tomatoes, soup, and monetary gifts for its community impact opportunity with donations going to the Good Shephard Ministry Center in El Cajon.
Entertainment will be provided by Cantate Women’s Ensemble, a group of 22 Granite Hills High School alumni and friends, brought together a year ago by retired GHSS choir director Merryl Nelson, ranging in represented classes from 1999 to 2012 when Nelson retired.

AAUW empowers women and girls by advocating for more women in leadership positions, closing the gender pay gap and preventing sexual harassment and discrimination, and supports girls entering careers using research, education, and advocacy at the national, state, and branch
levels.
Branch meetings are open to the public and welcome new members and guests. All general meetings are held in King Hall at the Foothills United Methodist Church at 4031 Avocado Blvd. in La Mesa. Social half-hour begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting lasts until 11:45.

Cantate will also present its Christmas Ring & Sing concert along with a community handbell choir, Harmony Ringers, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 5075 Campanile Drive, San Diego. A free will offering will be taken.
