Jr. Miss San Diego East Alexandria Williams coordinated a non-perishable drive and eight Council for Youth Empowerment titleholders donated items to fill the community Blessings Box located at Santee United Methodist Church. The box is open to all in the community who has a need or wants to donate. The concept is simple, “Take what you need and give what you can.” Alexandria organized the collection because she felt people in need get more help around major holidays, but might be forgotten other times of the year. Food insecurity and financial hardship can occur year round, so she wants to encourage others in the community to give to efforts like the Blessings Box year round. In tandem, the Lakeside VFW Auxiliary Vice President, Barbara Channel, organized a similar effort at the Carter-Smith VFW Post 5867 and the items will be donated to the Blessing Box on Jan 7.
