Spring is here and East County is springing into action this weekend. There is so much going on it is difficult to decide, because everything that is happening is well worth going to. Lakeside is kicking off with its 49th Western Days Parade and the 50th Lakeside Rodeo. And adding the soft grand opening of the new skate park it is history in the making and a day in history all in one.
But Lakeside is not the only community that has big plans.

Cuyamaca College has its annual Coyote Music Festival on April 26 with an impressive lineup of local talent. This is great family fun for all ages and the beautiful green campus is the perfect venue. I have seen most of the talent that is playing this year and it is a day well spent on an event that students put together all year as their final in the music industry program. Here you will see some of the up and coming musicians that East County has to offer and many of them, I believe will be well known beyond our local borders in the future.
And while we are on the subject of music, Saturday night at Parky’s Saloon in La Mesa will be standing room only as our local musician/attorney Paul Grinvalsky has gathered the talents of Open Mic Rancho San Diego in a benefit for Linda Webb West’s UR Charities, to raise enough money to send 40 hearing impaired children to Literacy Camp in Jamul this August. Parky’s is a strong supporter of UR Charities and donates 20 percent of sales to the charity.
So if you need a great place to go, with a fine line up of East County’s musical talent, Parky’s Saloon is the place to be. All of the artists are great as solo acts and groups, but when you gather all this talent into one space you will see a one of a kind show that will leave you begging for more.
For the history buffs, Lemon Grove’s 1893 Troxell Manor and Gardens is open to the public on Saturday for lectures, music, artists and a guided tour of the historical home and beautiful gardens. Lemon Grove is known for embracing its history and this is just one of the many events that highlight the Grovians of past and present.
All this, and so much more is happening this weekend, but what it really means to me is that East County is ready for the summertime fun to come. We have so much to look forward to.
Here shortly, Dinner and a Concert will be back at the Prescott Promenade in El Cajon and the Santee Summer Concert Series and for all the car buffs, the car shows are roaring its engines in every community in East County.
East County knows how to create great affordable events that should keep everyone satisfied with low cost high quality entertainment and fun. I’ll be springing off this season this weekend at the parade, Coyote Festival and Lakeside Rodeo and looking forward to much more to come. See you there-find me and say hello.
On a side note, Santee Lakes did a remarkable job this weekend at its Spring EGGstravaganza. I was so impressed, with more than 7,000 in attendance and so much to do, that once you left the area of the event, it was Santee Lakes on any other given day. People were relaxing, having family picnics and fishing at their favorite spots. It was a great day all around and once again Santee Lakes did it right.
