After Dominic Anderson scored on a 1-yard touch down, the Cougars were in position to tie the game with a 2-point conversion, forcing Grossmont into overtime. Foothillers head coach Tom Karlo immediately called for a time out forcing the Cougars to go for its second choice in play runs giving Grossmont the upper hand. Foothiller Defense Chaz Cadwalader tackled Cougar Lawrence Dickens giving Grossmont the Homecoming victory against Steele Canyon 21-19.
Full of ups and downs for both teams from the start, Steele Canyon controlled the clock for the first 10:38 of the game but came up empty handed. Grossmont had the ball for a few plays during the first quarter and it looked as the game was in the hands of Steele Canyon.
Halftime came with a large student led production and the crowning of homecoming queen. They had it all, cars from the 1940s and 50s, well-rehearsed flash mobs on the field, and a visit from Charlie Chaplin, who Steve the friendly school “narc” caught, then handed over the name of homecoming queen.
But back to the game.
Who knows what coach Karlo said to his football players during half time but sophomore Jake “little train” Harr scored the first touchdown of the game during the third quarter. Harr also caught a 20-yard pass from senior Anthony Lawrence scoring a second touchdown.
JT Barnes broke a school record for a career touchdown reception when he scored in the fourth quarter on a pass from Lawrence.
