EL CAJON — One of the missions of the Confederate Air Force is to commemorate aviation history.
The 70th anniversary of America’s involvement in World War II will span from Dec. 7, 2011 through Aug. 15, 2015.
The group’s long- term plan is to commemorate historic events both on the home front and the war front throughout this WWII anniversary period.

The 70th anniversary of America’s involvement in World War II will span from Dec. 7, 2011 through Aug. 15, 2015.
The group’s long- term plan is to commemorate historic events both on the home front and the war front throughout this WWII anniversary period.
Thus, last weekend’s annual “Wings Over Gillespie” experience brought that conflict to thousands of East County residents. Children of all ages were fascinated with the chance to see – and sometimes touch – genuine aircraft of the past, present and even the futre.
With hundreds of aircraft, military articles and equipment, as well as dozens of World War II re-enactors, and dozens of vendors plying everything from fresh lemonade to armed services artifacts to airplane rides, the show was deemed a complete success.
According to the Confederate Air Force’s website, “The current generation is now experiencing tough times without the perspective of the many hardships and challenges of the ‘Greatest Generation’ that lead to the triumphs that made the U.S. a superpower.
“The next four years will be a terrific opportunity to provide these much need history lessons.”
Generations of San Diego citizens are unaware of and do not appreciate the contributions of this area in ending the most destructive and consequential war of all human history.
Some of the aircraft presented in the show included the B17 (“Sentimental Journey”), B25 (“Made in the Shade”), a Fairchild PT-19, Lockheed Electra L-10E and anAntonov AN-2 Colt, among many, many others.
