A mother who was under the influence of drugs when she crashed into a telephone pole in El Cajon, killing her 3-year-old daughter, will have to serve 85 percent of her 13-year, four month sentence in prison that was imposed June 17.

Brandy Lee Teague, 32, of San Diego, didn’t make a statement, but cried during her sentencing by El Cajon Superior Court Judge Evan Kirvin. He ordered her to pay approximately $3,300 in funeral expenses for her daughter, Carlee.

Carlee was killed April 4, 2015, when Teague struck a telephone pole at 9:43 p.m. at 1163 Broadway in El Cajon, after the car jumped the curb onto a sidewalk. Two other children, aged 10 and 2, were injured.

A jury convicted her March 16 of vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of drugs, three counts of child endangerment, and possession of methamphetamine. Teague could have received a maximum 15-year, four month sentence.

Deputy District Attorney Aimee McLeod said Teague used methadone and methamphetamine the night of the crash. Methadone was lawfully prescribed for her, but she should not have mixed it with meth.

McLeod said the 10-year son kept telling his mother she was falling asleep at the wheel and she told him to keep her awake.  The son and the other child are living with relatives.

Teague’s lawyer asked for probation, which was denied by Kirvin, who gave her credit for 506 days in jail.

Santee and Lakeside burglar faces up to 37 years in prison

A repeat burglar could get up to 37 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to committing seven residential burglaries in Santee and Lakeside.

Lorance Allan Davis, 26, pleaded guilty to all charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen property, and possessing hydrocodone without a prescription.

El Cajon Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein said he would consider everything before imposing sentence on July 11. Davis has prior convictions for stalking, false imprisonment, and burglary from 2008.

Deputy District Attorney Lucille Yturralde said Davis took jewelry, electronics, medications, a gun, and other items. Some of the property was recovered. The seven burglaries occurred on Dec. 31 and Jan. 12, but the sheriff’s department said he was suspected in other break-ins before that.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Davis Jan. 12 in Lakeside after he broke into a house in the 10000 block of Pasita De Kristy in which someone was home. He fled the scene in a black Ford Ranger that he owned. Most of the break-ins occurred between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. by entering a home through a back window or patio door. Davis remains in jail on $457,000 bail.

Christmas pulled a knife and slashed the driver in the chest. The driver was hospitalized. El Cajon Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein denied probation and fined him $1,124.
