Suspect in Santee hotel murder faces preliminary

Bail has been set at $2 million for Everitt and he remains in jail. He has pleaded not guilty in El Cajon Superior Court.

Trial date set for two men accused or murder and robbery of El Cajon man

A trial date of Oct. 26 was set June 15 for two men who were ordered to stand trial for the murder and robbery of John Milton Francis, 38, who was shot at an El Cajon apartment in the 1400 block of Broadway on Sept. 18, 2014.

Five witnesses testified in the preliminary hearing of Paul Julian Sosa III, 19, of San Diego, and Homero Viscarra Palomino, 18, of Chula Vista. Deputy District Attorney Valerie Ryan said Francis was shot once in the back.

The sole item stolen from Francis was marijuana. El Cajon Police received a 911 call at 1:20 p.m. and found the victim dead.

Attorneys agreed to stipulate about the cause of death without calling anyone from the medical examiner’s office. Sosa and Palomino have pleaded not guilty and remain in separate jails on $2 million bail.

El Cajon robber to be sentenced

Steven Nelson Broyles, 30, will be sentenced June 30 and could get a maximum 24 years in prison for numerous robberies and burglaries in East County and possession of heroin for sale in jail.

Broyles admitted to a robbery from a hobby shop in El Cajon, a burglary of the Target store in El Cajon, as well as petty theft from an Alpine store in 2014. His other crimes include using other people’s credit cards, auto theft, and assault upon an inmate.

Broyles and his girlfriend were arrested Jan. 28, 2014 after driving through Lakeside and Alpine at 100 mph, according to sheriff’s deputies. Broyles abandoned the car in Lakeside.

Broyles pleaded guilty in March before El Cajon Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson and remains in jail.
