Cali Comfort, a BBQ restaurant located in Spring Valley, CA has been named as the “Small Business of the Year” for the 71st Assembly District.

“Small businesses serve as the backbone of our economy, and it’s important that we recognize the hard work, risk, and dedication that are required to start and run a small business,” said Assemblyman Brian Jones. “Cali Comfort offers excellent food and wonderful service while providing local jobs within the district. I am proud to name them as the 71st Assembly District’s Small Business of the Year.”

Cali Comfort’s owner, Shawn Walchef, has been intensely involved in the community, hosting an annual amateur BBQ and tailgate competition to raise funds for youth sports. In addition, Shawn offers his establishment to non-profits or local organizations whenever they need assistance.

“Rositsa Walchef and I are grateful to all the countless friends, family, teammates, guests, partners and loyal Cali VIPs who helped us achieve this prestigious award,” said Shawn. “We are humbled to be recognized by Assemblymember Brian Jones and honored that Mary England, the President of the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, would nominate us.

“The countless hours our staff has dedicated to Village Hospitality in East County has been rewarding not only because of the recognition but mainly because of the relationships we have cultivated. We will continue to work on building the most respected low-n-slow barbecue company on the West Coast and this award will proudly welcome all guests that visit us in Spring Valley.”

Nominations were solicited by the office of Assemblyman Brian Jones and a final determination was made by evaluating a number of factors.
