Shopping center’s 619 Day a celebration

Parkway Plaza kicked off summer with its inaugural 619 Day, a celebration of local business within a vibrant community on June 19. For more than 50 years, Parkway Plaza has played a pivotal role in bolstering locally owned businesses and creating memorable experiences for the community, said Parkway Plaza Marketing and Business Development Manager Petra Rich.

The event featured an evening of activities, including giveaway prizes every 19 minutes, exclusive discounts at locally owned stores, face painting, a scavenger hunt, and caricatures. One lucky attendee won a $619 shopping spree.

“It was really a great time,” said Rich. “The purpose of the event was to honor and celebrate all our locally owned businesses here in the center. At Parkway Plaza, over 30% of our small shops are locally owned businesses. We at the center really pride ourselves on being an incubator for these businesses, to come in, get their first storefront here, and really to be able to expand. So, we were really excited to have an event showcasing and promoting them, while tying it into San Diego’s area code 619. We received so much positive feedback from our store owners about really being able to connect with the community. The scavenger hunt was really for attendees to go around and find our local owned businesses, so it allowed them to really connect with the community. We are always looking for that opportunity here, to drive it home and make sure the community is being connected with these resources here.”
