After weeks of voting and more than 20,000 votes, the Santee Chamber of Commerce presented its Lucky Winners of the best of what Santee has to offer. Sponsored and held at the Barona Resort & Casino on Feb. 20, the award night was full of music, laughter, auctions and presentations of the award winning businesses and special awards to people that demonstrated great leadership in the community.
Masters of Ceremony, Bob Schultze and Steve Rolf from Off Broadway Live (Santee’s favorite Arts and Entertainment Company), entertained the crowd with song, jokes and an amusing live auction.
Though the evening was filled with food, fun and laughter, it was all about the businesses and people of Santee. With an impressive crowd of dignitaries from the city to Congress and the Armed Forces, many people received recognition for their hard work, ethics and devotion to the community with the Chamber’s Community Awards.
Selected for his 30 years of service to the community, the Person of the Year went to Ken Fox. His impact on the region as a supporter of youth sports, and recreation programs, he led the way in the largest park development in Santee’s history. The Town Center Community Park not only provides 55 acres of open space next to the San Diego River, but the multi use of the open space and sports complex generates more than $5.5 million in economic activity through partnership agreements. With vision for the future, he also led the way for Santee’s Annual Bluegrass Festival.
Joining the celebrations, were representatives of the city of Santee’s adopted Miramar’s Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 462 (HMH-462), the “Heavy Haulers” and Camp Pendleton’s 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Marine Expeditionary Unit, better known as the “Professionals. In recognition of their service, the Chamber recognized NCO of the Quarter, Sgt. Patrick Garner and Marine of the Quarter, LCpl Curtis Hom.
John Olsen, President & CEO, Santee Chamber of Commerce, officiated the ceremonies for the evening, recognizing the work of the Chamber, its past board members and gave special thanks to Christina Hertenstein, the 2013 Board Chairman. Santee Mayor Randy Voepel delivered the oath of service to the 2014 Board of Directors.
