With nearly 1,900 animals in its care — including 900 ready for new homes — San Diego Humane Society is offering 50% off adoption fees from Aug. 1-31 to help find families for shelter pets. On Saturday, Aug. 23, all adoption fees will be waived during a special Clear the Shelters Day event.
The promotion is part of the national Clear the Shelters campaign led by NBCUniversal and Telemundo, which encourages pet adoption as shelters across the country, including San Diego Humane Society, remain at or over capacity.
“Adopting a pet doesn’t just change their life — it changes yours in the best possible way,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society. “Every animal in our care has the potential to become someone’s best friend, and right now, they’re simply waiting for that chance. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, there’s no better moment than now.”
San Diego Humane Society continues to care for a high number of puppies, kittens, adult pets and small animals. Every adopted pet is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Walk-in adoptions are available Tuesday through Sunday at campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Available animals can be viewed at sdhumane.org/adopt.
