A joyous sound rose above the Santee Trolley Square Amphitheater as the San Diego Christian College Performing Arts Department presented its holiday concert Joyous Sounds on Dec. 3. A three-day event, the Chorale and Vision choirs, along with alumni and faculty, created an atmosphere of the bliss of the Christmas holiday with astounding performances of some Christmas classics. This young group of performing arts students is a force to be reckoned with, as their gift of song is founded in strong conviction, something undeniable in each performance.

Whether solo, trio, or group, the performances of the night were stellar. “Mary, Did you Know,” with a solo by Karlie Burggraf was beautiful and moving and Chontelle Crite’s voice was dynamic in her solo with Vision in “Gotta Tell.”
Ryan McDonald, Nathan Denny and Caleb Craig performed a moving and spirit lifting “I Have Seen the Light,” with their unison in voice and harmony a delight to experience. There was not one performance that did not stand out in one way or another. Under the Santee sky, these voices brought a message of hope, love and faith.
The SDCC Performing Arts Department has a full spring schedule of recitals, senior projects and upcoming Spring Musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” coming up at the end of March. To find out more about SDCC Performing Arts Department, visit www.sdcc.edu.
