On Sunday, Oct. 6, the last day of La Mesa’s famed Oktoberfest in the heart of its downtown, but will share a date with Stylz salon’s Cut-A-Thon fundraiser to benefit Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego.

Veteran stylist Maye Cole said the fundraiser evolved during one of its meetings about three months ago.

“We came up with the idea to hold a benefit for Children’s Hospital,” she said. “We wanted to make children a priority by helping to raise funds and community awareness.”

All the stylists will donate their time, expertise and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital. Cole said the idea for the Cut-A-Thon was unanimously embraced.

“We now want to have our community participate and support the event which is our fist of its kind”, Cole said. “We have a slashed-down, special rate of $15.00 that will be used as a donation and this will include a shampoo and haircut. Normally, we charge $30.00-50.00 so it is not only a great bargain, but the best way to include everyone that wants to contribute to this wonderful cause.”

Cole brings years of professional expertise to the La Mesa establishment.

“Prior to coming here, I trained hair stylists at the J.C. Penney’s salon in El Cajon for 18 years”, said Cole, adding  she liked her new location and  was excited to be part of the fundraising event.

Stylz owner Gaetana Rosselli is no stranger to organizing philanthropic and altruistic events from her salon and is excited that all the stylists have taken this children’s’ cause to heart.

“I used to volunteer for Children’s Hospital and have always felt that it’s such a worthy cause. I also believe it’s good to give to our community and am truly excited to be involved,” she said.

Rosselli explained that all the stylists have years of exceptional experience and expertise and will make it a wonderful event and urges her community to come in and support it.

“We specialize in the latest styles and services for both genders, all ages and nationalities,”she said. “We’ve printed event T-shirts that we’ll wear and we’ll have refreshments, raffles and want to make it a fun and rewarding experience for all. We urge our community, including our fellow merchants, to come together and support this wonderful cause.”

Long time Stylz salon client, Jill Sumner thinks it’s a great idea that everyone in the establishment is stepping up to help.

“I’ve been coming here for years and these stylists and manicurist do a wonderful job,” she said. “The donation price is less than half of what professional salons normally charge so take advantage of this special event. Even if you don’t need a haircut, please come by and make a donation to this wonderful cause. You can choose to donate any amount.”
