OT win gives Wolf Pack Santee City Cup trophy

It’s the football rivalry game of the year in Santee for crosstown bragging rights. It was close but the host West Hills Wolf Pack pulled out a 10-7 overtime win over the Santana Sultans.

As the score might suggest, it was a defensive battle with the Wolf Pack recording 169 total offensive yards and the Sultans recording 134 yards. West Hills racked up 165 rushing yards compared to just four passing yards in the Grossmont Valley League matchup.

Each team scored one touchdown in regulation: senior Jacob Romero (10 carries, 46 yards) for West Hills and sophomore Tatum Morehouse on a fumble recovery.

Junior Evin Dill had 12 carries for 42 yards.

Senior Christian Slojkowski fisnished one-for-three on field goals attempts but made the one that counted in overtime for the win — a 25-yarder in the overtime tiebreaker.

Senior Rey Garcia notched a 19-yard interception return for West Hills while junior Cameron Kirkpatrick had one sack.

Senior Caleb Carnes and junior Ryder Davey each had sacks for Santana, which received a team-high 12 tackles from sophomore Cameron Cipro.

The Sultans registered six tackles for losses on defense.

Junior Kolten Thornton led the visitors on the ground with 13 carries for 82 yards, including a 22-yard run, while sophomore Kyle Carnes passed for 42 yards.

Slojkowski averaged 50.8 yards on four punts while Morehouse averaged 39.3 yards on four punts.

West Hills (3-1 in league play, 3-6 overall) has won three consecutive Santee City Cup titles and nine of the last 11 meetings. Santana dropped to 2-2 in league play, 5-4 overall, as both teams line up fro playoff berths.
