Denise Whisenhunt has been selected as the next president of Grossmont College, the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College district announced May 14.
Whisenhunt has served as San Diego City College Vice President of Student Services since 2013. She has also held other positions at the college since she began there in 2001, Dean of Student Affairs, Interim Dean of Student Development and Matriculation and Associate Dean of Student Services and Outreach.
Prior to that, she served for almost three years as an Outreach Officer at the University of California, San Diego as well as in the Transfer Center at the University of California, Merced, beginning in 1991.
She earned her Juris Doctor at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. on top of her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and English literature from the University of California, San Diego.
Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Chancellor Lynn Neault said Whisenhunt has an engaging style of leadership and will work collaboratively with all groups to promote the best interests of the college.
“With the many challenges facing our district as we emerge from the pandemic and build back enrollment, Ms. Whisenhunt will bring a fresh perspective toward building a strong future,” Neault said.
Whisenhunt will begin in her new role on July 1.
