The East County Transitional Living Center, a nonprofit organization in El Cajon that provides housing, job training, and programs to help those struggling with addiction and homelessness is holding its Cast a Line at its Barrett Lake Bass Fishing Fundraiser on April 19 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Participants can rent a full day of fishing on a boat for $1,000 or a kayak for $250, or a half day of fishing for $500 on a boat. Those who opt not to cast a line can sponsor an East County Transitional Living Center family for a day of fun and fishing at Barrett Lake beginning at $100. Many of the kids living at ECTLC have never had the opportunity to enjoy a fun day fishing on the lake.
“Families coming from trauma and homelessness need a day to be in safety, enjoy the water and sunshine, and spend quality time together to heal and start deciding healthy goals for their future,” said ECTLC CEO Dr. Julie Hayden. “While many social events, parties, concerts, live sports, center on drinking, the Barrett Lake Bass Fishing Fundraiser offers a fun, alcohol-free opportunity to socialize and join friends in sobriety and fish privately on a high-demand waterway ordinarily open only by lottery,”
Proceeds from the fishing fees will support the center’s mission; money raised will support housing, job training and essential resources for people who need them.
