The Christmas spirit is alive and well around Lakeside and it is starting earlier than usual this year. On Saturday, Dec. 1, the Lakeside Historical Society will be hosting its 24th annual Holiday Home Tour. Four unique homes and the new Fire District Administration Office building will be on the self-guided tour.

In case you missed the grand opening of the new fire station/office last December, now is your chance to get up close and personal with the $15-million facility. The cute firemen will have the trucks all polished up for your inspection. You will get to see where they live, work, play and cook; pretty amazing!

Another home on the tour will be a familiar landmark you have probably seen from afar. The huge lighted star on top of Rattlesnake Mountain can be seen from El Cajon, Lakeside and Santee. Now you will be able to see it and the million-dollar view home on this tour.

A Clydesdale horse ranch with a huge collection of ranch antiques and two wonderful homes full of collectibles will also be on the tour. Another home with a collection of antique dolls and memorabilia brought from trips around the world will be on the tour.

Tickets for the Holiday Home Tour are $15 and are on sale at the Olde Community Church, home of the Historical Society, 9906 Main Ave. in Lakeside.

Also open to the public is the Lakeside Museum and the Christmas Resale Shoppe where you can get some great bargains. These are open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can call the Historical Society at (619) 561-1886 for further information.

Following the tour on Saturday, the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Spirit of Christmas on Maine Avenue beginning at 4 p.m. There will be much merriment with music, vendors, various foods for sale, a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Santa Claus who will be talking to the children. You can even have the kiddies’ photos taken with Santa. This is always a lot of fun and the chamber does a wonderful job of entertaining the community with this gift to our town. Come on down for some good old fashioned fun!

So what are you and your organization doing around Lakeside this month? Just give me a call at (619) 443-1133 and I will help you spread the word to our community.
