Lakeside VFW rummage sale supports good cause, offers great time

There are a whole lot of things going on lately at Lakeside’s VFW, from lunches and dinners to fixing up the old building and community events. But their next big thing is an old favorite: the annual rummage sale.

There are a whole lot of things going on lately at Lakeside’s VFW, from lunches and dinners to fixing up the old building and community events. But their next big thing is an old favorite: the annual rummage sale.

The fundraiser will be open on both Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend, April 14 and 15. It will offer the usual items – toys, books, clothes, house wares, glassware, holiday items – and much more. It promises to be a “gargantuan” event with lots of variety. It is also a great way to support our veterans.

The money raised will go toward their building fund to finish refurbishing the vintage memorial site, which was built in 1948.

“The floor is done,” said Post Commander Paula Jansen, speaking of the recent renovations. “The serving area is being worked on now, and we need to replace those chairs. We’ve had them since the 1990s.”

The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Saturday burgers will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a half pound patty with homemade sides. On Sunday morning, breakfast will be offered by the infamous Wafflers Youth Crew from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Both “professional” and casual rummagers may be interested in the early bird special. If you pre-buy a ticket for the regular Friday Steak Night dinner, you can gain access to the rummage store during the day on Friday. On Sunday, if you purchase a VFW bag for $5, you can stuff it with as much merchandise as the bag will take – for free. 

The sale will be held in the War Memorial Building at 12650 Lindo Lane, on the south side of Lindo Lake Park. The VFW is accepting donations up to Saturday, but no furniture please.
