In the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce’s first event of the year, it welcomed Chelsea Merigan, owner of The Art Stash to the Chamber and the La Mesa business community. With raffles, free gifts, art demonstrations and  a noontime ribbon cutting, The Art Stash had plenty to celebrate and a large crowd for the afternoon event.

“We are a artist family owned business,” said Merigan. “We are the only independent art supply store in San Diego, really happy to be here and supplying to artists in our area.”

Merigan said she opened the art supply store in La Mesa because there really is not any full artist supply stores in East County.

“It’s been kind of a trek to go all the way West, so we wanted something local East or West, that is why we picked La Mesa,” she said. “Chris (her husband) and I are both artist and we really love how art influences our lives and wanted to spread that to our community, born and raised in San Diego and the East County. We also wanted to offer an affordable area for artist to come and get their supplies.”

Merigan said art is a luxury, really not a necessity so she wanted to make it easier for the consumer to purchase. The store supplies everything needed from student grade to fine artist.

“So we have an array for anyone that may just be starting out in their journey to someone who has been painting or drawing for years,” she said. “Our inventory includes very specific brands that are asked for by our customers, so we listen to what they want and we bring it in. As well as some brands you can’t get anywhere else in San Diego other than The Art Stash.”

She there is something specific that someone needs and they do not stock it, they will order it and have it in two days. The Art Stash holds classes for children and adults, novice and professional. It offers an everyday discount for students, military, and art association members.

The Art Stash is located at 7859 El Cajon Blvd. in La Mesa. To find out more visit www.theartstash.com, find them on Facebook at facebook.com/THEARTSTASHSD and on Instagram at artstash_sd.
