New York City may be famous for its skyscrapers, but Jamul now has a pretty tall building of its own: the 16-story hotel tower at Jamul Casino Resort. East County celebrated a milestone in August as the resort officially opened the tower, marking a major expansion for the property and a new era for Southern California hospitality.
The tower adds 200 Alexa-enabled rooms and suites, a rooftop pool with mountain views, a full-service spa and salon, a signature dining venue, and a speakeasy, transforming the casino into a full-service resort. Designed to provide a seamless experience from gaming to relaxation, the tower incorporates advanced in-room technology through the DigiValet tablet system, allowing guests to control lighting, entertainment, and services with voice commands. The property was built to earn AAA’s Four Diamond designation, a recognition of excellence in service, comfort, and cleanliness.
“This moment has been a long time coming,” said Mary Cheeks, president and general manager of Jamul Casino Resort. “Our new hotel tower is the result of years of dedication and vision—designed to create a truly exceptional experience for our guests while deepening our commitment to revitalizing the community.”
Chairwoman Erica M. Pinto of the Jamul Indian Village described the opening as historic for the Tribe and the surrounding community. Local leaders attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, County Supervisor Joel Anderson, National City Mayor Ron Morrison, and Chula Vista Mayor John McCann.
“Jamul is a close neighbor to the city of Chula Vista, and I congratulate them on the newest addition to their resort. I’m hopeful it will bring good jobs and opportunities to our regional community,” McCann said.
Grand opening weekend featured a variety of festivities highlighting the new amenities. Baseball legend and former Padres pitcher Trevor Hoffman kicked off a poolside celebration at the Starlite Pool, followed by a drone show against the mountain backdrop. Actor Glenn Howerton hosted a Four Walls whiskey tasting in the Fly Room speakeasy, while live music and salsa dancing closed out the weekend by the pool.
Since opening in 2016, Jamul Casino Resort, owned and operated by the Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation (JIVDC), has become a premier entertainment hub in East County. The $430 million property features nearly 1,700 slot machines, 46 live table games, a dedicated poker room, multiple restaurants, bars, and lounges, and now the expanded hotel. The new tower enhances the resort’s all-in-one experience, offering guests a world-class destination where gaming, entertainment, and relaxation seamlessly intersect.
The resort employs more than 1,500 people and is the closest casino to downtown San Diego, providing convenient access for regional visitors to high-end gaming, dining, and leisure experiences. By aiming for AAA’s Four Diamond standards, the new tower reinforces the resort’s commitment to quality, comfort, and exceptional guest service.
