In its 7th year, the Home of Guiding Hands once again partnered with the San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Randy Jones to benefit the more than 1,900 children, adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities. This annual event has raise more than $300,000 in the past six years and with this year’s participation, that number will keep on climbing. Held at Crown Point Park on Feb. 25, the morning was filled with a 2K and 8K run/walk, a family fun zone, music, field day games, information booths and so much more.

It is a family event with clients, families, supporters and extended family gathering together for a day of fun and for a great cause. HGH has provided quality community support, critical housing and life skills training for its clients for the past 50 years. It is HGH’s philosophy that individuals thrive as they direct their own lives in a setting that offers a fulfilling lifestyle, increased opportunities for self sufficiency, provides individual attention and encourages better community integration and access.
Mark Klaus, Home of Guiding Hands CEO and president said it was a great day and a wonderful opportunity for HGH.
“We have 400 people registered to run or walk,” he said. “Having Randy Jones out here as our spokesperson is a partnership that works. Randy has been involved with HGH for 40 years. It is great to see him out here getting support from the community as well, since Randy’s going through throat cancer and he has really been a trooper through this whole process. We serve children from birth to 3-years-old, with 31 homes in East County. This is a great opportunity to raise community awareness and raise need funds for our services. Jones said he has been involved with HGH since 1976 at its humble beginnings in Lakeside.
“I was really infatuated with what they do with kids and adults,” he said. “They give them a home environment with assistance. They dwell on things that they can do rather than what they can’t do. They really improve their lifestyles and made an impact on me. Over the past 40 years I’ve been trying to do my part every chance I get. Seven years ago we came up with the idea for the Run/Walk and I was really proud to put my name on it and make a difference for the Home of Guiding Hands.”
