Dear East County Community, we hope you all had a terrific Thanksgiving! Now, it is time to get in the mood for the season. Lakeside Library has a few special programs for you in December:

Saturday, Dec. 2- 2:00 p.m.: Winter Concert with the Shirthouse Band

Join us again for an afternoon with our beloved house band – The Shirthouse Band. They will entertain us with their Bluegrass Music and mix in some seasonal songs as well. Light refreshments will be served.

Monday, Dec. 4 – 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Community Resources Table

Monday, Dec. 4 – 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Community Resources Table

Every first Monday 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Lakeside Library hosts a community resources table. Two Homeless Outreach workers from the McAllister Institute will provide information and resources regarding your questions about affordable housing, substance abuse help, legal aid, food assistance and more. Families, single persons, teens and veterans are welcome.

Mondays, Dec. 4, 11, and 18: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Southern Caregiver Center Resource Table

The Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC) in the east county region is a non-profit agency focused for family caregivers that assist family adults dealing with a diversity of chronic diseases conditions and illnesses. They share their resources, such as the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health (REACH) program. The REACH program is a countywide Prevention and Early Intervention initiative of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. The purpose of the program is to implement a caregiver education, training, and early intervention program to prevent or decrease symptoms of depression and other mental health issues among caregivers of Alzheimer’s disease and other Dementia patients.

Wednesday, Dec. 6 – 3:00 p.m.: Christmas Card Craft with Faux Calligraphy 

Joanna Gorman will show you an easy way to create beautiful calligraphic Christmas or other seasonal greeting cards. All materials are provided.

Saturday, Dec. 9 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Winter Celebration at the Lakeside Library

Have your picture taken with Santa and one of his elves. There will be food crafts to make, games to play, a holiday movie to see, and much more. This event is for kids of all ages to come and have fun.

Monday, December 11 – 1:30 p.m.: Book Signing: “San Diego County Parks: Over 100 Years”

Meet Jennifer Grahlman, a local researcher and historian who works in the San Diego County Parks History Center. Together with Ellen L. Sweet she co-authored "San Diego County Parks: Over 100 Years". The book published in August 2017, reveals newly discovered history, corrects popular misconceptions, presents information you can’t find anywhere else, and answers long-standing questions about people and places in San Diego. It’s a fine-tuned passion project representing years of original research. Don't miss out on this exciting occasion! Light refreshments will be served as well.

Wednesday, Dec. 13 – 5:30 p.m.: Classic Movie Night

Maureen O'Hara & John Payne – When a nice old man who claims to be Santa Claus is institutionalized as insane, a young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing. Light refreshments will be served.

Saturday, Dec. 16 – 11:00 a.m.: Star Wars Day at the Lakeside Library

Children and families will enjoy a fun-filled event with games, crafts, food, and fun to celebrate the upcoming Star Wars movie. This event will be for kids of all ages.

Monday, Dec. 18 – 1:00 p.m.: Perfume Rollerball Make and Take

Suz from Lakeside Community Gardens shows us how to create rollerball remedies and perfume from essential oils for make and take. They make nice Christmas gifts too.

Thursday, Dec. 21 – 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Department of Child Support Services – Info table

Saturday, Dec. 23 – All Day: Cookies and Cocoa at the Lakeside Library

Enjoy free cookies and cocoa at the Lakeside Branch Library all day long. This is our way of celebrating the holiday with our customers and giving back to our community.
