Dear East County families:

Dear East County families:

The big news at the library is that our terrific summer reading program starts June 1st!  That’s when you can sign up quickly and easily on line at http://dbpcosdcsgt.co.san-diego.ca.us/screens/SRP/index.html , and start logging in your reading to win prizes…and just for the pleasure of a good book. Summer reading is a big deal for libraries nationwide.  We want to combat the ‘summer slump’, for one thing, when kids lose some of the progress they’ve made in school because they don’t read over the summer. The theme this year is “Read for the Win”, which we’re interpreting broadly.  You always win when you enjoy our incredible variety of books for people of all ages.  And don’t forget that we have access to libraries throughout California, and local university libraries, with our Link+ and Circuit catalogs.  You can request materials from these far-flung libraries and have them delivered right to your local County library branch.

In the summer, our wonderful youth services librarians, Kristin and Miko, arrange all kinds of different programs for kids.  See below for a sampling of these treats.

Something new : BookFlix is a collection of high quality video picture books, paired with nonfiction ebooks and games organized by subject. It’s perfect for preschool-3rd grade, parents and teachers.  Check it out at bkflix.grolier.com/
