Following National School Counseling Week, Grossmont Union High School District announced Susan Lusk, a Granite Hills High School counselor who has been with the high school since 2011, was named Counselor of the Year on Feb. 13.
“Susan is an outstanding leader of our counseling department who always has time to meet one-on-one with any of the students assigned to her caseload,” Granite Hills High School Principal Dr. Christina Wilde said.
Lusk specializes in working with students with special education needs, including identifying services, and accommodations they need to succeed, and ensuring they receive the individualized instruction.
“She empowers students by making a multitude of resources available to them and taking time to address each of their unique needs. She truly prepares students to build the best future,” GUHSD Superintendent Mary Beth Kastan said, and is “an inspiration” to all.
GUHSD Board Clerk Jim Kelly said all 61 of the district’s counselors make a difference for students academically, as well as preparing them for “many of life’s challenges” including college and careers and whatever else may be in their future.
